Mercedes Autoboat
For the first time, the Mercedes-Benz Classic Collection addresses a chapter of corporate history about which little is known even among experts: historical boats. Gottlieb Daimler dedicated himself not only to the manufacture of automobiles but also endeavored to use his small, high-speed gasoline engine in aircraft and watercraft. In the same year in which Gottlieb Daimler built the first four-wheel automobile, he also filed a patent application for a boat engine and set out on the first test cruises on the River Neckar. Hence, Daimler is also the father of the motorboat. The maritime sector acquired enormous significance in the years that followed. The demand for boat engines rose by leaps and bounds. Fame was achieved by a boat named “Marie” which was supplied to Otto Prince von Bismarck, also known as the Iron Chancellor. This boat is today displayed in the Mercedes-Benz Museum.

Chronograph
This limited edition watch, of 300 pieces worldwide, is powered by an automatic swiss-made ETA-movement and housed in a stainless steel case. The design of this watch was exclusively created for the Mercedes-Benz Classic Collection by the design department of Mercedes-Benz in the style of the dashboard of the 300 SL. The watch comes with a stainless steel wristband plus two additional leather straps. The idea for the red leather strap was inspired by the famous leather interior of many 300 SL’s, and the brown leather strap by the hood closing of the 300 SL Carrera Panamericana. The face of the watch has a prismatic Mercedes-Benz star and the 300 SL logo. The watch is packaged in an elegant black wooden piano lacquer box with the Mercedes-Benz star on top. It is water resistant to 5 ATM and has a 3 year warranty. All watches are serially numbered.

Exclusively for Mercedes-Benz Classic, the car chimpanzee by the Steiff company dating from 1911 has been reproduced using original materials. The Steiff brothers were fascinated by the development in automotive engineering and were among the very first car owners. From there, it was only a small step towards coming up with the idea of creating a diversified and striking range of Steiff radiator mascots. One of the most enchanting of theircreations was the car chimpanzee which is now made available again to make the hearts of collectors beat faster. Mercedes-Benz Classic Collection leaves it entirely to the imagination of the new owners to decide where and how to use the replica in our day and age. These replicas are in a limited edition of 750 units only.

Mercedes-Automobil-Holding
The Mercedes-Automobil-Holding AG (MAH) was animportant step on the way to Daimler-Benz becominga public company. In 1974 and 1975 the shareholder structure ofDaimler-Benz changed considerably. Deutsche Bankinvested a Daimler-Benz share package of 25.23 %(nominally 300 million DM) into the newly established MAH. Where previously more than four-fifths of the capital had been in fixed hands, suddenly the portfolio investment was spreadamong a further 50,000 shareholders. MAH consolidated in late 1993 to form Daimler-Benz AG.

Securities such as these were in circulation from private hands even before the “Reichsbank” treasury auction, only in much lower numbers.The merger of Daimler Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie. on June28/29, 1926 resulted in the creation of Daimler-Benz AG. After the Second World War, in May 1951, the company’s equity capital was con-verted from reichsmarks to deutschmarks in the opening DM balancesheet at a ratio of 5:3. The ordinary shares and the bonds are visuallyattractive, highly decorative items in good to excellent condition.

Debentures
Following a loan in 1942 for a total par value of 40million reichsmarks, Daimler-Benz committed itself to repayment of the sum borrowed at an annual interest rate of 4 %, to be paid half-yearlyin arrears on April 1 and October 1 each year. Debentures were created by dividing the overallloan into individual partial amounts. For repay-ment purposes all debentures were split into 20 groups of 2 million reichsmarks each. The conditions are printed on the reverse. Unlike ordinary share certificates, which represent shareholder equity and are in landscape format,debentures evidence ownership of loan capitaland are printed in portrait format.
